Passos D'água
Passos D’Água is a Waterlution initiative dedicated to innovation and collaboration, focused on integrating education in WASH (Water, Hygiene and Sanitation) education and climate issues to reshape traditional school environments and curriculum. The central premise is: if students aged 12 to 16 receive training in collaborative innovation, with an emphasis on WASH and climate issues, they will be able to promote local actions with solutions adapted to the challenges of their communities, positively influencing decision-making processes.
The program was initially implemented in Rio de Janeiro, with the support of Instituto Yarandu. In total, 89 students from two 8th grade classes participated. The program included an opening session, four training workshops, post-workshop follow-up meetings and a commemorative event, all led by a team of four facilitators and a Program Coordinator.
During the workshops, students co-created nine projects, addressing topics such as pollution, access to water, deforestation and the lack of basic sanitation in communities. A detailed monitoring and evaluation methodology was applied throughout the pilot project, allowing for an in-depth analysis of the program's impact. Among the notable results, the following stand out: an increase from 24% to 48% in students' ability to discuss Sustainable Development Goals after the workshops; 45% felt able to discuss systemic thinking and 40% about innovative solutions, compared to 20% before the workshops. A significant increase in confidence and leadership skills was also noted. For us, at Instituto Yarandu, supporting educational initiatives that transform students' lives is essential to fulfilling our mission of contributing to a more equitable society.
